What is Impostor?

Impostor is a social deduction game for 3+ players. Everyone gets the same secret word except the Impostor, who has no idea what the word is.

Players take turns giving a one-word clue. Citizens prove they know the word without revealing it; the Impostor listens, improvises and tries to fit in.

When the clues are done, the table votes. Catch the Impostor and the Citizens win. Keep the bluff alive long enough and the Impostor takes it.

Classic

You know how many Impostors are hiding among you. Find them before they survive.

Mystery

The Impostors do not even know they are Impostors. Their own clues may give them away.

Chaos

The number of Impostors is random. Maybe there are none. Maybe everyone is one.

How to play

Create a room and invite at least two friends.
Choose a category and start the game.
Look at your secret role and word, then give one clue on your turn.
Discuss, accuse and vote for the player you think is bluffing.
Citizens win by catching every Impostor; Impostors win by surviving.

Frequently asked questions

How many players do we need?

Impostor needs at least 3 players. More players make the clues and the vote more chaotic.

Do Impostors know the secret word?

No. In Classic mode the Impostor has no idea what the word is. In Mystery mode, the Impostor may not even know they are the Impostor.

What is the Helper Word?

An optional setting that gives the Impostor a similar word to help them bluff, without revealing the Citizens' word.

How do Citizens win?

Citizens win by finding and voting out every Impostor. Impostors win by surviving until enough Citizens are gone.

Can we play remotely?

Yes. The host shares a room link; everyone joins from their own phone.

Is Premium required?

No. The download is free and Impostor is playable without Premium. Premium unlocks Chaos mode and VIP word categories.
